The short version: We do not collect, store, or sell any personal data about you. Privacy policies you scan are sent to our AI backend for analysis only, and are never stored or logged.
Privacy Policy Scanner is a Chrome extension that automatically analyzes website privacy policies and gives users a plain-English risk summary. It is an independent product, not affiliated with any data broker or advertising network.
To function, the extension accesses the following:
When you visit a website, the extension finds and fetches that site's privacy policy text. This text is sent to our backend server, which forwards it to the Anthropic Claude AI API for analysis. The response — a structured risk summary — is returned to your browser and cached locally.
Privacy policy text is transmitted over HTTPS and is not logged or retained by our backend after the response is returned. We do not associate policy text with your IP address, browser identity, or any personal identifier.
To prevent abuse, our backend applies rate limiting based on IP address. Your IP address is used solely to enforce this limit (20 scans per hour) and is not stored, logged, or associated with your scan history.
We use the following third-party services to operate the extension:
Scan results are cached in your browser's local storage (via Chrome's storage API) to avoid re-scanning the same site repeatedly. This data is stored entirely on your device and can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing Chrome's extension storage.
This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
